This is a real thing that happens. The horses are never fed,and become nothing but skin and bones. Then they are taken to slaughter houses, how could we harm such a wonderful, beautiful animal? Some horses give their owners fame and fortune, and the owners thanked them,by killing them. Please help end the horse slaughter!

why do you want to end it? If we stop slaughter then all the horses who have been abandoned and abused will have to continue to live in those horrible conditions for years on end.
I'd rather see a horse spend 1-2 days scared and then know that they are no longer in pain then drive by a pasture and see a horse slowly starving to death over a year as his feet get long, his belly fills with worms, and flies eat at his ears and eyes...

Not true.. There are many horse sanctuaries that are willing to take them in as well as other horse owners.

please give me proof. The price of hay has doubled, the south is in a drought, and the price of corn (thus a majority of concentrated feeds) has skyrocketed due to ethenol production.

A sanctuary must be capable of providing proper nutrition, hoof care, and vet care. Many sanctuaries (especially in my state) have been shut down because they fail to meet these requirements.

One horse per year:
200-300 in vet costs (shots, coggins, minor injuries, etc)
400-900+ for farrier costs (i know many retired horses who wear shoes that cost around $300 and are reset every 5 weeks)
150 mortality insurance
200-400 in hay each year
120 for dewormer
360+ on grain, concentrate feed, and supplements

and all of this is for your average healthy horse kept at home. If you board a horse somewhere you can expect to add 1200 to 12000 for board each year. Also don't forget that many retired show horses require adequen to stay comfortable so add another 600 a year for that.

Many people think they can afford to take on a retired horse but in reality they usually costs as much if not more then a horse that is in full work.

-_- Sick. Horses aren't ment for slaughter just like cats and dogs aren't. Second, you offend people when you do that. Why would you mess with a girl's head like that?

Drugs don't kill people.
Pancreatic cancer kills people.

... And whoever heard of a drug that caused pancreatic cancer, anyway?

They dont starve the horses to near death, no point in slaughtering a thin horse as there would be little meat. Conditions need to be improved, live export needs to be stopped, but equine slaughter shouldnt. They are live stoack at the end of the day.

You say that it's better to spend a day scared? That is still cruel and killing horses just because they are no longer useful for races if horrible as well! Instead of spending a day "scared" why not just uthenize it humanly? Because the way they put an end to their lives is not humane. Horse slaughter is very cruel.
There are horse scactuaries but the way to solve this to stop breeding so many for sport and for gambling!

Killing horses for meat is also cruel as well. Horses are domisticaed animals as well and if you wouldn't eat your cat or your dog than why would you eat your horse? (~silverleprichuan I know you didn't say anything about eating horses for meat I am just giving another point)
